Leve Architects presents an innovative concept for an equestrian center in Shanghai. This project offers the public an attractive recreational park—a green oasis in the heart of the metropolis where people can be active and enjoy nature. The design aims to create an environment that promotes and develops such recreational opportunities for Shanghai's residents.
To preserve the open park atmosphere, the majority of the facility was designed underground. This subterranean complex serves as a riding arena for lessons and events, while also providing a multifunctional arena for various sporting events and shows with a capacity of up to 7,000 spectators.
The above-ground landscaping, featuring floral motifs, allows natural light to penetrate the area below. Wavy walkways and overhangs form a natural amphitheater for the open-air arenas. The above-ground horse facilities occupy only 2.5% of the total area. Adapted to the urban setting, a recycling plant for composting horse manure was integrated into the design. These serve as natural fertilizer for the park's vegetation, thus protecting the environment.
With this design, Shanghai could become a pioneer in the development of equestrian sports in China and, thanks to its unique location, establish itself as a center for top-level equestrian performance.
